Geophysical Studies Involving Geoenergy
Planning the drilling of deep geothermal energy wells requires data on the properties of the bedrock, which can be produced with geophysical methods.
Finding an ideal location for a site
Reducing the risks of drilling
3D geomodels facilitate monitoring
Of all the geophysical methods, the most accurate information on the position and depth of the bedrock surfaces is obtained through reflection seismic profile measurements. Seismic measurements can be conducted above the ground, but also by using a drill hole. Audiomagnetotelluric measurements (AMT) provide information on deep conductivity changes that may be associated with water-containing fracture systems, for example.
It is recommended to perform geophysical drill hole measurements after the well is completed, so that the exact location and properties of the bedrock fracture zones can be determined and utilised in the plan for the use of the energy well and even in the context of future drillings. Extensive geophysical measurements allow for geological 3D modelling, which also benefits the safety monitoring efforts related to deep geoenergy wells.
Contents of the service package:
- planning the seismic reflection soundings, monitoring the measurements, and processing the data
- planning and monitoring the Vertical Seismic Profiling (VSP) process
- customised measurement solutions according to the customer’s needs
- AMT measurements
- planning, monitoring, processing and interpreting the geophysical drill hole measurements
- Interpretation of different geophysical datasets and 3D geomodelling.
We need geophysical data on bedrock properties, such as interfaces and fracturing, in the design of geonergy wells, and deep wells in particular.
