From Data to Products

The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) uses a carefully planned processing chain from raw data to ready-made data products. The quality of the geodata produced by GTK has been proven to be among the best in the world.

Key benefits

GTK’s high-quality datasets provide added value for the user

The utilisation of artificial intelligence, modelling and data analysis methods and data sharing requirements require quality-assured map and data production. High-quality datasets provide more added value, and a systematic data production process makes the daily life of employees smooth.

Productised datasets and smooth customer service

GTK has a large volume of pre-produced datasets that are continuously maintained. The availability of data also involves customer service, making it possible for customers to order customised datasets on specific areas.

Harmonised products

GTK’s productisation process produces harmonised products – regardless of the theme and taking the customer’s needs into account.

The data to product process is divided into three stages: analysis, further processing and productisation of data

The starting point can be the customer’s own data, data produced by GTK or a combination of these. The quality of the available data will be ensured and the data harmonised. New perspectives on the source data can be found by using advanced methods such as machine learning and artificial intelligence.

GTK specialises in the processing and publication of geological, geophysical and geochemical spatial data.

The acquired or digitised raw data is usually not suitable for publication as such. For this reason, the data is productised, i.e. processed into products that can be published.
