Introduction

Sustainable Water Resources, SuWa, is a project of the VKR unit to promote the role of hydrogeology in climate change and carbon cycle research in the Arctic and sub-Arctic regions. Hydrogeological modelling will be taken from the site level to the regional level and towards the national level, and machine learning methods will be explored to map the national groundwater potential using existing data. The work packages of the project include data analysis and publication of results, development of sampling, analysis and modelling methods, in particular for surface water-groundwater interactions, new contaminants of concern (e.g. PFAS, Micro- and Nano-Plastics) and groundwater dating methods. We will also develop new methods, and apply methods used in other studies, for characterisation of mining waste, prediction of discharges and identification of transport of discharges.

The project aims to produce publications in scientific peer-reviewed and professional journals, as well as modelling pilots and method descriptions to serve scientific and co-funded funding applications and paid research.
