Mine Tailing Productization and Utilization Enhancement With Automated Mineralogy – MinerAll

Introduction

The MinerAll project aims to research and develop the application and use of automated mineralogy to maximize the utilization potential of tailings. Currently, the mineralogy of the samples is obtained from GTK Mintec’s mineralogical research, but not the utilization data, which is wanted to be combined with the initial data. The goal is to develop a database and methods for creating an automated analysis and visualization of the suitability of tailings for different uses (e.g. as a raw material for a certain geopolymer), the ability to be enriched and possible harmful components. With the help of this analysis, a circular economy ecosystem based on tailings minerals can be created from the mining project in accordance with the principles of the Outokumpu Mining Hub value network. The project includes the productization and marketing of the services mentioned above as well as those aimed at optimizing the beneficial use of tailings.
