Glaciofluvial Deposit Modelling
- Project research area
- Sustainable Water Resources
Introduction
The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) implements in collaboration with ELY Centres, cities, municipalities and water utilities geological surveys of glaciofluvial aquifers.
Research will promote coordination of community water supply, groundwater protection and different land uses in important groundwater areas. The information also assists in carrying out necessary measures in the event of an accident and with preparedness.
Applied study methods include geological, hydrogeological and geophysical studies (soil drilling, gravity measurements, ground-penetrating radar surveys etc.). The hydrogeological structure of the aquifer is presented with modelled surfaces (ground elevation, bedrock and groundwater surfaces), calculated layers (aquifer thickness etc.) and groundwater flow chart.
The study reports and research data are shared in GTK’s Lähde service.
