Energy Transition

Project research area
Energy Transition
Project duration
01.03.2024 - 28.02.2026

Introduction

Energy transition project provides foundations for competence development, geodata and science & innovation in the corresponding strategic focus area. It allows development of crosscutting knowhow and specific innovations for geoenergy, site assessment, energy storages and natural gas fields of investigations. The project is funded by Geological Survey of Finland.

The overall aim of the project is to improve GTKs capability to respond to the needs arising from the energy transition nationally and internationally:

  1. Geothermal energy and underground heat storage work package focusses on assessing how the heating power output can be increased with sustainable methods.
  2. Site assessment work package aims to enhance on the method and analogue-site development serving as a research platform for various applications (SMR, gases, groundwater, geoenergy, modelling).
  3. Natural gases and hydrogen storage work package has been designed to lay foundations for future works in the fast-growing area of geological applications needed by our society.
