Introduction
EMODnet Geology is part of the European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet). The project collects, harmonises and shares existing geological data from Europe’s marine areas.
EMODnet Geology produces data and data products on topics such as seabed substrates, sedimentation rate data and erosion, prequaternary and quaternary geology, geomorphology, coastal types and behaviour, geological events, marine minerals such as aggregates and hydrocarbons, and ancient submerged landscapes.
The project promotes cooperation between geological surveys in different countries and creates easily accessible uniform datasets for different stakeholders, such as researchers, decision-makers and the public. Users of the EMODnet Central Portal have the ability to view and download geological data through interactive maps and tools, which improves understanding of seabed geology and supports sustainable marine area management.
