Porosity

Porosity measurements reveal the proportion of interconnected pore and fracture volume within the total volume of the sample.

Porosity has a strong influence on e.g. electric conductivity and seismic velocity. Porosity can be measured both on hand samples and on drill core samples with maximum mass 3 kg and minimum mass 100 g. Water-saturated (3-7 days at room temperature and pressure) samples are weighed before and after drying in an oven (three days at 105ºC).
