Anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS)
The orientation dependence of magnetization of a rock is described by its anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS). The AMS measurements (Agico, MFK1-1A) are used to investigate the magnetic fabric of a rock, which may be due to e.g. magma flow direction or deformation. Measurements can be carried out on rock and soil samples.
Measurements on rock samples are carried out on cylinders (diameter 2.5 cm, height 2.1 cm). Measurements on soil samples are made in 7 cm3 plastic cubes.
