Areas of expertise:

My research areas are environmental geology and ore geology. I did my PhD in 1992 on black shales, including the Talvivaara nickel deposit which is currently mined. I have acted as international vice-leader of UNESCO scientific projects on black shales and coordinated cooperation with Russia. I have long experience as project leader. The topics of my European Union projects deal with environmental risks, black shales, mine environments and with arsenic.

CV: Professor in the Helsinki University of Technology (currently Aalto University) 2003-2008. Back then I was the first female professor in geology in Finland. Division Manager at GTK 2008-2012 (Bedrock and raw materials). Director of Mining and Metallurgical Industry, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, 2012-2017.
