Natural Hydrogen as a Sustainable and Clean Energy Source − Insights into Its Exploration and Extraction in Finland
Date: 04.09.2024Location: OnlineDate: Wednesday 4 September 2024
Time: 10:00 – 11:00 EEST
Place: Webinar, registration required
Natural hydrogen has been proposed as a complementary source for sustainable hydrogen economy. While hydrogen-rich gas deposits seem to be rare, groundwater with high hydrogen concentrations have been observed globally and in the Finnish bedrock where rock types associated with hydrogen generation are abundant.
The main hydrogen generating processes and hydrogen dynamics in the Earth’s crust are generally known. However, focused and quantitative research on hydrogen mobility and accumulation pathways as well as techniques to enhance natural hydrogen generation are needed to facilitate potential estimations and resource predictions. Furthermore, the resource estimation methodology, legal frameworks and post-extraction processing and transport are not yet established.
During this webinar you will learn
- The state of natural hydrogen exploration and extraction on a global scale
- The extent of hydrogen gas and hydrogen source rocks occurrences in Finland
- Ways in which hydrogen can be extracted from the Finnish bedrock as well as potential additional benefits which can be introduced during geological hydrogen extraction
- How to get involved in the natural hydrogen research in Finland
This webinar is organized by the Geological Survey of Finland GTK and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. The webinar will be livestreamed only and not recorded.
