Appointments to the management team: Niina Ahtonen has been appointed Director of the Geoscience Information and ICT area of responsibility, and Antti Nummi as Director of the Customer Solutions area of responsibility

The Geological Survey of Finland provides companies and society with solutions to accelerate the transition to a sustainable carbon neutral world. GTK carries out its mission through three roles: science and innovations; geoscience information; and customer solutions.

To strengthen the implementation of its strategy, the following appointments have been made to the Geological Survey of Finland management team:

Niina Ahtonen, MA (Geology and Computer Science), has been appointed Director of the Geoscience Information and ICT area of responsibility. Niina Ahtonen has 15 years’ experience in geoscience information and ICT from her previous expert, project management and manager positions. Ahtonen has been at the Geological Survey of Finland since 2004. She has previously held posts at Savonia University of Applied Sciences, as well as the Universities of Oulu and Kuopio.

Niina Ahtonen will lead the freshly started development effort in geoscience information to improve the usability of geoscience information and its processing rate.

“The Geological Survey of Finland has geoscience information stores that are ranked among the best in the world. Our goal is for geoscience information to be more widely used by our various stakeholders, and for it to be used in decision-making,” says Niina Ahtonen.

Antti Nummi, Master of Social Sciences, has been appointed Director of the Customer Solutions area of responsibility. Antti Nummi has more than twenty years’ experience of leading and developing customer accounts and business. Since 2019, he has held a post at SRV Yhtiöt Oyj as commercial director, business development, as well as director for customer relations and the development of the energy and lifecycle business, and before that, as director for Nordic sales at Renewable Energy Group Inc., as business management consultant, as well as commercial director and in business development tasks at Neste Oyj.

Antti Nummi is tasked with leading and developing GTK’s key accounts and customer activities in Finland and abroad.

“I’m happy to be allowed to join a developing, international research institute like GTK. I’m excited to have the opportunity to create customer solutions for additional value with GTK’s professionals and customers,” says Antti Nurmi.

“Our strategy is highly relevant, and these fresh appointments will allow us partly to implement it in a customer-facing manner. Niina’s wide-ranging expertise in both geology and the development of digital services will advance the effectiveness of geoscience information. Our customers are highly satisfied with our services. Antti’s strong experience in customer and business leadership will further strengthen our customer activities.
